Sadly, Grey Wicker has passed away from unidentified causes. A Facebook post by Tom Crabtree WSPA lamenting the tragic loss of the founder of Hub City Hog Fest served as an announcement of his passing. His devoted wife, Amanda, and their two children, Mack and Mae, survived him until his death.
He reportedly passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, May 9, 2023.
He served on the board of Mobile Meals and was honored for his charitable work to the underprivileged in the neighborhood. His family and friends are in our thoughts and prayers. Thank you for setting a very high standard for supporting those in need, Grey. You’ll be missed, buddy.

Grey Wicker, who was he?
He was the son-in-law of Dan and Ilene Lackland, who were both members of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Charleston, South Carolina. Grey was a devoted husband to his wife, Amanda Lackland Wicker. He raised two beautiful children, Mack and Mae, who will always miss their wonderful father. The Hub City Hog Fest, a barbecue festival in the heart of Spartanburg, was started by Gray.
